Tateisi Science and Technology Foundation Gives Grants to 24 Research and International
Exchange Projects
 On
May 13, the Tateisi Science and Technology Foundation,
chaired by Nobuo Tateisi, executive adviser of Omron,
held its 16th Grant Presentation Ceremony at the Kyoto
Takaragaike Prince Hotel. The foundation was established
in 1990 to celebrate Omron founder Dr. Kazuma Tateisi’s
90th birthday and has as its aim the promotion of electronics
and information engineering. To further these goals,
the foundation supports research and international exchanges
that enhance the harmony between people and machines,
resulting in technological innovations that best suit
the lives of people.
This year, 20 research projects were selected and granted a total of 44.96 million yen. Selected
projects included “Development of Flexible Tactile Sensors for the Collaborative Relationship of
Robots and Humans” by Fumito Arai, Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Engineering at
Nagoya University. In the international exchange category, four projects were selected for grants
totaling 1.25 million yen for the first half-year (second half-year recipients will be decided in late
September), including “Exhibits at the 19th International Conference of Computer-Assisted
Radiology and Surgery” by Rie Tanaka, Assistant Professor of the School of Health Science at
Kanazawa University’s Faculty of Medicine. During the ceremony, Mr. Tateisi presented a
certificate of commendation and grant money to each recipient, along with words of
encouragement.
